Born and raised in a home where education was valued, ambition were supported, and inquiry was encouraged (my father was, after all, a college professor and computer engineer), I naturally developed a love for knowledge and an aspiration to be both a counselor and an educator.
I obtained my B.A. in elementary education from Huntington College in 2002, my M.A. in counseling from Regent University in 2004, and my Ed.D. in distance education with a focus on instructional design and technology in 2009. I also have a few dozen hours of Ph.D. work in counselor education and supervision completed. I am a licensed teacher in the state of Indiana and a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and licensed school counselor in the state of Virginia.
In 2009, I accepted an appointment as an assistant professor at Liberty University in the school of education. Here I teach and develop online courses for the educational technology and school counseling program. I also teach quantitative research and analysis for the doctorate programs. Previously, I held a lecturer position at Old Dominion University (ODU) and worked as a teaching assistant for Regent University’s CACREP-accredited Masters in Counseling program. While at ODU, I worked as a developer and consultant for online course development. In addition to teaching in higher education institutions, I have served as a counselor at a community college’s women’s center, human service agencies, and day and residential treatment facilities. Building houses for hurricane victims in Florida to teaching basic living skills to parents in Bolivia, I have traveled extensively in the United States and overseas volunteering to work with diverse populations.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Michael. We enjoy "tinkering" on our computers (and creating programs and websites such as the one you are viewing now) and exploring the great outdoors -- hiking, biking, and running. One of our favorite vacation spots is Disney World where we get to visit both Mickey and my parents.
