The purpose of Families for a Lifetime was to help create healthy, happy children and families in Virginia Beach. Families for a Lifetime represented a partnership between city agencies and local family-centered organizations. As a volunteer of Families for a Lifetime, working to provide information and resources to strengthen the relationship between parents and their children, I was involved in organizing and implementing variety of family and educational events such as Building Memories and Celebrating Children.

The vision of Ready to Learn was for all children in the City of Virginia Beach to enter kindergarten healthy and ready to succeed in school and in life. The members of the Ready to Learn team represented Virginia Beach city departments, public schools, and community agencies. Through collaboration, the members provided resources, programs, and opportunities to families, childcare providers, and the community to ensure children enter school ready to learn. As a member of Ready to Learn, I served on a variety of subcommittees that developed, organized and implemented educational family events such as W.A.V.E.S., Beach Bears, and D.E.A.R.V.B., and the Ready to Learn Publications.

As a facilitator for the Parent Skills Training class, I developed and taught a six week parenting skill classes to parents in the community. Additionally, I provided a wide variety of community referrals to parents attending the class.
